Students in Canutillo ISD are achieving academically, in an unprecedented manner! Canutillo schools continue to set the standard of excellence in the region and serve as national models of learning and leadership for all students and English language learners. The Canutillo Turnaround is credited with increasing test scores, improving graduation rates and creating a culture of high expectations among students and teachers.
Under the current leadership, Canutillo ISD boasts:
- The designation of the Best Small School District in Texas by the HEB Education Excellence Awards Program.
- The creation of the first public Montessori program in El Paso County at Garcia Elementary School.
- The creation of the state’s first Student Advisors, where two high school students sit at the dais with the Board to hear, discuss and vet every issue before the elected Trustees.
- The largest number of National Board-Certified Teachers in El Paso County.
- The only back-to-back-to-back district in the region to earn an A Rating from the Texas Education Agency.
- The only El Paso-area district to earn an A-B Honor Roll distinction from the Educational Results Partnership closing achievement gaps and creating high-performing schools.
- A National Blue Ribbon Award — the highest honor from the U.S. Department of Education — for Northwest Early College High School.
- A U.S. News & World Report Best High School in Northwest Early College and Reyes Elementary.
- Three Purple Star designations for campuses going above and beyond in serving military-connected families in our community.
- The Canutillo Connect, a one-to-one distribution of devices and establishment of wireless access networks designed to bridge the digital divide among all CISD students.
- The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
- An affirmed credit rating of Aa- from Moody’s Investors Service, among the highest ratings in the region.
